Panama's Copa Airlines has selected Messier-Bugatti to provide wheels and carbon brakes for all the Boeing Next Generation 737s in its own fleet as well as its Colombian subsidiary.

The contract covers 86 existing and ordered aircraft, where the equipment will either be retrofitted or newly installed.

According to Flightglobal's ACAS database, Copa has 18 737-700s and 19 737-800s in service and 47 737-800s on order. Copa Airlines Colombia operates two 737-700s.

Messier-Bugatti says its carbon brakes can cut weight by up to 700lb (317kg) per aircraft compared to conventional steel brakes.
