The US District Court for the northern district of Texas has temporarily blocked a vote on union representation by passenger service agents at American Airlines.

The Fort Worth, Texas-based airline had asked the court to stop the vote among the nearly 10,000 agents at American to join the Communications Workers of America union.

The vote was to be conducted by the US National Mediation Board from 21 June to 2 August.

The union says that it will ask the judge to allow voting to begin at a preliminary hearing that is scheduled for 21 June.

American did not comment before press time.
