Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico have jointly applied for authority to begin flights between both Kansas City and Pittsburgh and Cancun later this year.
Atlanta-based Delta will operate the seasonal Saturday-only flights on 149-seat McDonnell Douglas MD-88 aircraft from 21 December, according to a regulatory filing on 9 July.
Mexico City-based Aeromexico is seeking to place its code on the proposed flights.
Frontier Airlines flies between Kansas City and Cancun, Innovata schedules show. No carriers fly between Pittsburgh and Cancun.
The application follows a number of other joint applications by the airlines for new routes to Cancun this year, including from Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston Intercontinental and Los Angeles.
