Delta Air Lines and Vietnam Airlines have notified the US Department of Transportation (DOT) that the carriers are expanding their current codeshare partnership.

Vietnam Airlines currently expects to place its code on Delta's flights from Frankfurt to Atlanta, Detroit, and New York-JFK. The airlines explained in a filing with the DOT that they "wish to implement these services for travel effective June 25, 2011".

Vietnam currently flies to Frankfurt from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, according to Innovata schedules.

In addition, Delta and Vietnam are requesting "a waiver from the 30 day advance notice requirement" of new codeshare service, a condition of the DOT's statement of authorisation regarding the codeshare partnership between the carriers.

Vietnam joined SkyTeam and launched its codeshare partnership with Delta last year.
