Delta Air Lines has received approval for a new nonstop between Los Angeles and Leon/Guanajuato, Mexico, from the US Department of Transportation (DOT).

The Atlanta-based carrier's regional partner SkyWest Airlines will operate the new flights on either 65-seat Bombardier CRJ700 or 76-seat CRJ900 aircraft from or around 19 December, according to a filing on 26 June.

The DOT deferred approving Delta's request to place the Aeromexico code on the flights until the agency is notified of approval from the government of Mexico.

Delta also plans to begin flights between Atlanta and Leon/Guanajuato operated by either ExpressJet Airlines or SkyWest on or around 19 December.
