Delta Air Lines has inaugurated flights from Salt Lake City International airport to Chicago and Lincoln, Nebraska, two of ten routes launched from the Utah capital yesterday.

The SkyTeam alliance member is flying Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Chicago Midway International airport seven times per week.

Regional partner SkyWest operates Bombardier CRJ200s to the Lincoln airport as Delta Connection seven times a week.

The new service is not without competition as Southwest Airlines connects Chicago Midway and Salt Lake using 737-300 and -700 aircraft, according to Innovata.

Chicago and Lincoln are two of ten new Delta offerings from Salt Lake.

SkyWest is also operating Delta Connection service using CRJ200s to Bismarck and Fargo, North Dakota, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The regional is using a mixture of CRJ200s and CRJ900s on flights from Salt Lake City to Des Moines, Iowa.

SkyWest is also flying CRJ900s on Delta Connection flights to El Paso, Texas and CRJ700s on Milwaukee, Wisconsin links.

For flights from Salt Lake City to Indianapolis, Indiana and Nashville, Tennessee Delta is using Boeing MD-90s.

Carrier SVP network planning Bob Cortelyou says Delta timed the new flights to allow passengers to make connections in Salt Lake City to new international destinations including service to Tokyo that began 3 June.
