Delta Air Lines declines to comment on speculation that it is in talks with Singapore Airlines regarding acquiring the Asian carrier's 49% stake in Virgin Atlantic Airways.

The Atlanta-based carrier could significantly increase its access to slot restricted London Heathrow through an acquisition of the stake and a partnership with Virgin Atlantic. It has a trans-Atlantic joint venture with Air France-KLM, which has hubs at Amsterdam Schiphol and Paris Charles de Gaulle.

The US and UK press has reported that Delta is in discussions with SIA.

SIA confirmed that it was in talks with "interested parties" regarding a possible divestiture of its stake in Virgin Atlantic earlier today.
