Delta Air Lines is forecasting a "solidly profitable" third quarter this year, despite rising fuel prices.

In updated guidance given today at the Deutsche Bank Aviation & Transportation Conference, the airline's president Ed Bastian says the airline expects unit revenues to grow 3% to 4% year-on-year for the quarter ending 30 September.

System capacity will be down 1% to 3%, while consolidated ex-fuel unit cost will grow by 4.5% to 5.5%.

Delta expects an operating margin of 9% to 11% in the third quarter, says Bastian.
