Delta Air Lines plans to launch nonstop flights between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport and Mexico City from 1 June, pending regulatory approval.

The Atlanta-based SkyTeam alliance member would operate year-round daily service on a 160-seat Boeing 737-800, according to an application with the US Department of Transportation (DOT) today.

No airlines fly between Fort Lauderdale and Mexico City, according to Innovata schedules. Aeromexico, American Airlines and Interjet fly nonstop between Miami and Mexico City.

Delta's proposed route would connect with flights at its SkyTeam and codeshare partner Aeromexico's Mexico City hub.
