Delta Air Lines in June plans to introduce daily non-stop service between Columbus, Ohio and Kansas City, Missouri.

Delta Connection carrier Chautauqua Airlines is operating 50-seat Embraer ERJ-145s on the route, says Delta.

Also offering nonstop service in the market is Chautauqua's affiliate Republic Airways, operating five flights per week under the Frontier banner with Embraer E-190s. Republic Airways Holdings acquired Frontier in 2009.

Data from the US Department of Transportation show that from February 2010 to January 2011 Southwest had the highest market share in Columbus at 27%, followed by Delta with 9%.

Delta recently said its estimates a $3 billion hike in its fuel costs this year as oil prices per barrel settle over $100 per barrel and have reached prices in the $120 range. As part of an overall capacity cut in the second half of this year, Delta plans a 25% reduction in departures from Memphis.
