Investigators are examining why a DHL Boeing 727-200 freighter overran the runway yesterday at Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Nigeria.

The incident occurred yesterday at 13:30 and involved a 727-200F owned by DHL Aviation, says the cargo operator in a statement. It adds that none of the three crew members on board the aircraft was injured.

DHL says it is awaiting the results of a full report into the incident, but declines to disclose any further details.

Reports in the Nigerian press say the 727-200F landed on Lagos Airport’s runway 18L, which was flooded due to a heavy downpour, and was badly damaged when it hit navigational aids. The reports add that the aircraft was left resting on its nose.
