Lufthansa Technik has started inspecting the production of Boeing 787s on behalf of individual customers for the type.
The German company says that it is the first MRO provider to conduct production inspections for the Dreamliner programme, whereby LHT engineers are stationed at the manufacturer’s assembly line to spot potential quality issues.
The maintenance specialist has been contracted to oversee the production of 50 787s, although it is not clear whether this is for a single or multiple customers. A first aircraft was checked in October for an undisclosed client, with four more 787s to be completed by year-end.
The deal was an important step for LHT to broaden its 787 support to the aircraft’s entire life-cycle, says Marcus Motschenbacher, head of network sales and customer service base maintenance.
