Dubai International airport has become the world's second busiest airport for international passenger traffic, taking over from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport.

According to new figures published by Airports Council International, Dubai has moved up two positions in the global rankings and is now only behind London Heathrow airport.

Passenger traffic at Dubai International airport rose by 13% year-on-year to reach 10.6 million passengers in the first two months of 2013.

Dubai Airports chief executive Paul Griffiths says: "Given our surging growth rate and London Heathrow's capacity constraints, we are well placed to overtake them as the world's busiest airport for international traffic by 2015."
