US defence giant Raytheon is promoting its National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System (NASAMS) at the Dubai Air Show.

NASAM has been adopted by the armed forces of Norway and is used to protect key targets in the USA such as the White House and the Capitol Building. The system relies on a radar unit, with ground controllers located either in a fixed location such as a bunker or in a vehicle.

The system cannot engage ballistic missiles, but is effective against cruise missiles, helicopters, unmanned air vehicles and fixed-wing aircraft.
