EADS has entered discussions with the French government to buy back a 1.56% stake as part of its 18-month share repurchase programme.
The company is offering €37.3 ($49) a share, in line with French media firm Lagardère, which sold its entire 7.4% holding last week for €2.28 billion.
EADS wants to repurchase up to 15% of issued and outstanding share capital
Last month its board of directors approved the €3.75 billion share repurchase programme to reduce political interference in its governance. The purchase will be financed by cash available on the balance sheet, says EADS.
