UK low-cost carrier EasyJet has appointed TUI Group executive Johan Lundgren as its new chief, to succeed Carolyn McCall.

Lundgren has spent the last 12 years with the travel group, where he served as group deputy chief and as chief executive for mainstream markets.

EasyJet chairman John Barton credits Lundgren with "proven experience in European travel as CEO and in broader group roles", adding: "He is strategic yet operationally focused and has proved himself to be a customer-centric, charismatic and successful leader."

Lundgren will take up the role on 1 December.

McCall in the summer confirmed she was leaving the carrier to head up UK broadcaster ITV. She will step down as chief executive at the end of November but remain with the airline until year-end to assist with the transition.
