EasyJet has seen stronger than anticipated bookings from Moscow ahead of its launch of flights to the Russian capital.
The low-cost carrier begins daily flights from London Gatwick to Moscow on 18 March.
Overall bookings are ahead of forecast said chief executive Carolyn McCall at a press conference to mark the launch of the route. "[But] what has been really significant is that we have really exceeded our expectations in bookings from Moscow to London Gatwick.
"What we would expect is [demand] would predominantly be inbound into Moscow to begin with. What is surprising is that we are already quite well known in Moscow as we have taken quite a lot of bookings [from there]."
She expects the route to have a similar business travel demographic as some of its services from London to Edinburgh or Amsterdam of about 40-45%. "I think a third [of passengers] will be travelling for business purposes," says McCall.
