London Stansted's owner expects a doubling of EasyJet's traffic from the airport within five years under a deal it has struck with the UK low-cost carrier.

Manchester Airports Group, which acquired Stansted from BAA in February for £1.5 billion ($2.3 billion), says that over the next half decade EasyJet's annual passenger numbers at the London airport will rise from 2.8 million to six million.

Luton-based EasyJet currently operates eight aircraft and 27 routes from Stansted, serving destinations which include Amsterdam, Lyon, Marrakesh and Munich.

In the airport's latest financial year, Ryanair accounted for some 73% of total passenger volumes at Stansted, while EasyJet accounted for just 18%.
