Larry Ellison may have bigger ambitions in the skies above Hawaii.
The chief executive of Oracle and owner of the Hawaiian island of Lanai is seeking to acquire the Aloha Airlines name from Yucaipa Cos., a former majority shareholder of Aloha, according to a report from The Honolulu Star Advertiser.
The news comes six months after Ellison purchased Honolulu-based Island Air, and two months after he was reportedly in talks with Mesa Air Group to purchase its inter-island carrier go!.
Ellison purchased 98% of Lanai in 2012 for a reported $300 million from businessman David Murdock.
Aloha filed for bankruptcy and ceased operations in 2008, citing a fare war started by go! as a reason for its demise.
