Israel Aerospace Industries' Elta Systems division has developed a simulator to help train operators of its special mission aircraft, based on different platforms.

The company has developed an airborne early warning (AEW) version of the Ilyushin Il-76, and AEW and signals intelligence derivatives of the Gulfstream G550 business jet, with the systems having been sold to India, Israel and Singapore.

Simulators have been delivered to all three nations to enable their air forces to train mission system operators using the same equipment installed on their operational aircraft. The equipment was developed with a high degree of commonality between the host platforms.

"The mission is realistic and the instructor can inject scenarios that behave as in a real mission," said Oren Harel, head of Elta's mission department.
