Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer is in the early stages of a life-cycle study which could give rise to a recycling initiative for its aircraft.
Embraer is considering following the example of Boeing and Airbus, which are already already active in aircraft recycling.
Speaking during a media briefing at Embraer's Sao Jose dos Campos headquarters, director for environmental strategies and technologies Guilherme Freire said: "Right now we are starting a life-cycle studies project.
"We understand that [aircraft recycling] is very important and we hope to have a project about this in the future."
The project is likely to be formally launched in mid-2009.
