New York-based JetBlue Airways and Emirates have launched a joint frequent flyer partnership.

Under the pact, members of both airlines' frequent flyer programmes can earn miles when travelling on flights operated by the other carrier, starting 1 July.

The partner airlines plan to introduce a redemption agreement in February 2013.

Emirates and JetBlue operate a codeshare agreement that connects the carriers' networks via New York's John F Kennedy International airport.

The Dubai-based carrier will launch a new service to Barcelona and Lisbon from next week. Including the two new services the airline will fly to 126 cities globally via its Dubai hub.

Emirates currently serve seven gateways within North America. The airline will start nonstop daily flights to Washington DC on 12 September.
