Preliminary analysis of flight data from the Tupolev Tu-204 which crashed on approach to Moscow Domodedovo yesterday shows both engines were operational before impact.

The Aviastar-Tu flight from Hurghada came down in a forest about 1km before the runway.

Russia's Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK) states that it has completed the downloading of cockpit-voice and flight-data recordings, adding that there is a "satisfactory" record of the accident on both.

Initial assessment shows the aircraft was not destroyed in the air by fire or explosion. It adds that, before it struck obstacles including tall trees, the aircraft's Aviadvigatel PS-90 engines "were functional".

Although the aircraft was written off in the crash, all eight occupants survived.
