Erbil International airport in northern Iraq has reported a 53% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers to 948,000 for 2012, exceeding its projection of 608,000.
Passenger air traffic movements for the year stood at 9,020.
Cargo tonnage grew by 54% to a total of 28,000t in 2012. The airport says this was largely driven by demand for imports into the Kurdistan economy.
Emirates, Etihad, Maximus, Royal Jordanian, Starlight, Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines all operate dedicated freight services into the northern Iraqi airport.
