Privately-owned Eritrean carrier Nasair has merged with the northeast African country's flag carrier, Eritrean Airlines.

Few details are available, but a notice on Asmara-based Nasair's website says that the two carriers "have recently been merged together".

Nasair is part of the Sharjah-based Nasair Group. The Boeing 737-200 operator serves destinations in Eritrea, Kenya, Sudan and the UAE.

Eritrean Airlines began operations from Asmara in 2003, using a single Boeing 767-300ER leased from Boeing Aircraft Trading.

Neither airline could be reached for further comment.
