Ethiopian Airlines has agreed to lease three new Boeing 787-8 aircraft from International Lease Finance for delivery in the first half of 2015.
The carrier is the only African operator of the 787, with -8s in its fleet. Its seven aircraft backlog includes one delivery later this month, one in 2013 and the remaining five in 2014.
"Ethiopian is pleased to bring the 787 fleet to 13 by 2015," says Ethiopian chief executive Tewolde Gebremariam.
ILFC, which confirms the lease, is the largest customer for the 787 with an order book of 74. According to Flightglobal's Ascend Online database, ILFC has two 767-300ERs on lease to Ethiopian.
