Ethiopian Airlines will take delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner on 14 August at Boeing's facilities, followed by a flight to Addis Ababa on 16 August.
The Star Alliance carrier will be the third airline to receive the aircraft type, after All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines.
"The fact that we are the first airline outside Japan to receive this ultra modern aircraft is an affirmation of our continuing pioneering role in African aviation. It is also a testimony of our commitment to give our passengers the best possible travel experience, with the best industry products and services," says Tewolde Gebremariam, Ethiopian's chief executive.
After taking delivery of the aircraft on 14 August, Ethiopian will fly it to Washington DC on 15 August and place the aircraft on display at an event to be attended by US politicians and other officials.
The aircraft will then depart for Ethiopia and will touch down at Addis Ababa on 16 August. Ethiopian says it will announce its first 787 destinations soon.
