Etihad Airways and South African Airways (SAA) have signed a memorandum of understanding to commence codesharing services.

SAA will initially place its code on 13 of Etihad-operated services, including the Johannesburg-Abu Dhabi route, while Etihad will place its code on SAA-operated flights to 10 destinations from Johannesburg, says Etihad.

The airline adds that the two carriers also plan to "explore synergy and efficiency opportunities".

The Abu Dhabi-based airline recently signed other codesharing agreements with carriers such as Air Seychelles, Jet Airways and Kenya Airways.
