Air France-KLM and Etihad Airways are exploring the possibility of a codeshare agreement according to the Abu Dhabi carrier's vice-president international and public affairs.

Speaking to Flightglobal Pro at the French Connect 2012 conference at Disneyland in France earlier this week, Vijay Poonoosamy said talks are on going. He adds: "We are at that stage of trust-building which will could lead to a codeshare in due course."

He says: "Air France came into the Abu Dhabi market, but decided it would withdraw. That provided an opportunity for both of us to look whether a codeshare on the Paris-Abu Dhabi route would make sense.

"Whether that base cooperation leads to other [locations] and potentially other codeshare points remain to be seen."

At Air France-KLM's 2011 results announcement in Paris earlier in March, group chief executive Jean-Cyril Spinetta confirmed speculation over talks between the SkyTeam carrier and Etihad Airways about possible partnership agreements.
