Etihad Cargo carried 175,000t of freight in the first half of 2012, up 21% compared with the same period last year.

Revenue at the cargo division for the six months to 30 June 2012 grew by 13% year-on-year.

Cargo tonnage for the second quarter alone rose by 22% to 90,000t, contributing to an 11% increase in Q2 revenues to $183 million.

Etihad Cargo added four freighter destinations during H1 - Benghazi, Dammam, Djibouti and Tripoli - bringing the total freighter network to 27 destinations across 20 countries.

Kevin Knight, chief strategy and planning officer, says: "Cargo traffic into and out of Asia and the subcontinent remained particularly strong for us over the period ... at a time when many cargo carriers are cutting capacity."
