Etihad Airways will enter into a codeshare relationship with struggling Serbian flag carrier Jat Airways, as it continues talks on potentially acquiring a stake in the airline.
"We are entering into a codeshare with Yugoslav Airlines," says Hogan today at an industry luncheon in Washington DC. Jat was formerly known as JAT Yugoslav Airlines before it was rebranded as Jat Airways in 2003.
Hogan says Etihad is still in discussions with Jat about acquiring a stake in the carrier. Serbia's finance minister Mladjan Dinkic said last month that he was confident that Etihad would be an ideal partner for Jat. Etihad could potentially acquire up to a 49% stake in the Belgrade-based carrier.
Etihad already holds stakes in various other carriers, including Air Berlin, Aer Lingus, Virgin Australia and Air Seychelles.
