Etihad Airways today announced it will launch daily, nonstop service between Abu Dhabi and Washington DC next year, opening the carrier's fourth North American market in seven years.
The UAE-based carrier will deploy two Airbus A340-500s on the route starting on 31 March 2013.
Etihad has previously connected Abu Dhabi to Toronto, New York John F. Kennedy and Chicago, the carrier said.
James Hogan, Etihad chief executive, noted that Etihad is beating UAE rival Emirates to Dulles airport.
"This capital-to-capital link is a huge opportunity for us," he said.
Etihad will equip the A340s in a three-class lay-out with 240 seats.
The route also includes cargo capacity of 140 tonnes per week.
