An ex-Horizon Air Bombardier Q400 has been sold for part out by the airframer, Flightglobal has learned.
The 2001-vintage aircraft (MSN 4039) was sold to Bombardier by the airline late last year and is being stored in Toronto. Horizon has operated the airframe since 2006 after purchasing it from Chang An Airlines.
The aircraft is the first of a two aircraft deal, according to a source, with the second expected to be sold later this month.
To date, only three SAS Group Q400s, damaged during landing accidents in late 2008, have been sold for parts.
Horizon Air operates 48 Q400s. It has options to acquire a further 10 of the type with deliveries from 2013 through 2015.
