US Transportation secretary Ray LaHood has announced a $17.8 million grant to reconstruct two major taxiways at Las Vegas McCarran International airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airport improvement programme (AIP) grant will allow for the rehabilitation of 5,000 ft of Taxiway E, which runs parallel to and between the airport's north-south runways.
It also will fund the resurfacing of Taxiway H, which runs parallel to and west of those runways.
The project will replace the existing cracked pavement with pavement that is more durable, which will require less maintenance and will better stand up to high desert temperatures. The project will also improve Taxiway H signage.
The improvements are part of the FAA's AIP, which provides $3.35 billion in annual funding for projects at airports.
