The US Federal Aviation Administration has levied a $262,000 fine against Ameriflight for allegedly violating Department of Transportation regulations covering drug and alcohol testing.

FAA alleges the scheduled and charter cargo operator did not wait to receive verified negative results from drug tests prior to hiring 14 individuals to perform safety sensitive functions or maintenance duties from March 2009 to March 2010.

Additionally, the agency also determined Ameriflight failed to administer periodic alcohol tests to 11 randomly selected individuals as required by federal regulations and company policy.
