Berlin-based Germania's holding company has firmed its order for five Airbus A319 aircraft, having disclosed a tentative agreement earlier this year.

The holding company, SAT, had previously reached a memorandum of understanding for the type.

As a result Germania, which is rolling over its fleet of Boeing 737s, will become a new Airbus operator.

"Germania and its customers will profit from [the A319's] proven efficiency and its enormous flexibility for charter and scheduled routes," says Germania chief Axel Trampnau.

Deliveries of the CFM International CFM56-powered aircraft, configured with 150 seats, will start in 2011.
