JetBlue Airways selected Pratt & Whitney's PW1100G-JM engines for its Airbus A320neo order, at the Farnborough air show today.

The order includes 86 engines with deliveries beginning in 2018.

"The benefits of improved fuel efficiency, lower operating cost and a minimal noise footprint make the PurePower engine a prudent investment in our future," says Dave Ramage, vice president technical operations for JetBlue.

The airline has an order for 40 A320neos that was announced in June 2011.

P&W has been expected to win the order since late 2011. It is the first for the engine type in the US.

JetBlue also signed a long-term maintenance agreement with P&W under its PureSolution programme.
