African start-up budget carrier FastJet is to lease two Airbus A319s from Volito Aviation and has selected Sabena Technics to conduct maintenance at its first base in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
FastJet is planning to have five A319s within six months and the Volito operating lease agreement covers its second and third aircraft - which will be delivered in November.
The carrier says it has sealed a five-year support deal with Sabena Technics, which includes establishing a local line maintenance operation in Tanzania.
Former EasyJet chief pilot Rob Bishton will be the carrier's operations director, while Harun Cordan - previously with Ryanair - will become group chief pilot and head of flight operations.
FastJet chief Ed Winter says the airline is "firmly on track" to launch at Dar Es Salaam next month.
Swissport International will provide exclusive handling services to the airline. The carrier has also named former Air Uganda chief executive Kyle Haywood as its general manager for Africa.
