Finnair has appointed Allister Paterson as its senior vice-president commercial and a member of executive board, effective 7 January 2013.

Patterson most recently served as a chairman, president and chief executive of Seaway Marine Transportation. Prior to this, he was the president and chief executive of Air Canada Vacations.

He also served Air New Zealand as acting chief executive and began his career at Pacific Western Airlines.

"I am eager to implement the company's strategy with the rest of the Finnair team. Doubling the company's Asian revenues by 2020, and strengthening the company's position in the Scandinavian market are challenges that inspire me," says Patterson.

"Under the leadership of my predecessor, Finnair has systematically built its position in Asia and this forms a solid ground for continuing the work."

Mika Perho, the current head of Finnair's commercial division, will leave the company at the end of December 2012.
