Finnair has named Pekka Vauramo, an executive from handling company Cargotec, as its new chief, just after its outgoing chief moved to head the same firm.
Vauramo is the chief operating officer of Cargotec division MacGregor but has also headed its Kalmar business and served as Cargotec's deputy chief.
He will join Finnair as chief executive on 1 June, succeeding Mika Vehvilainen who departed to Cargotec in February.
"Our company has a clear strategy regarding Asian growth and reducing costs through partnerships, and it is critical to continue the prompt execution of this strategy," says the airline, noting that Vauramo has been based in Hong Kong.
Vauramo says Finnair's restructuring effort has provided a "solid ground for building future success" but adds: "I recognise that success will require hard work and a faultless execution of the company strategy."
