Sri Lanka’s Fits Aviation has purchased two ex-Alitalia Boeing MD82s, which will be converted at Aeronautical Engineers (AEI).
The first aircraft (MSN 53217), which will enter the conversion line later this month, was built in 1993.
"We have been in search of a 20 ton cargo aircraft to service our growing needs. A detailed comparative analysis of potential freighter aircraft was carried out and we finally firmed up on the decision to acquire an MD 82 aircraft and carry out a passenger to freighter conversion with AEI,” says Omar Kayaam, chief executive officer of Fits Aviation Private.
Last month Fits Aviation purchased an ATR 72-200 quick change passenger to cargo version model to replace two Fokker 27s. The 1994-vintage aircraft was previously operated by Danube Wings.
