African operator Fly540 is looking to step up to high-capacity aircraft to tap into overseas markets.
The Nairobi-based carrier has been in discussions with a view to acquiring a Boeing MD-11.
Such an aircraft would be a significant development for the airline which has focused on regional operations with types such as the Bombardier CRJ and ATR 42.
Operations director Nixon Ooko says the airline is looking at the type to operate services such as Mombasa-Dubai, picking up feed traffic from the Comoros.
Fly540 operates primarily within Kenya with additional regional services to Tanzania and South Sudan.
