Flydubai's passenger traffic from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) plus central and eastern Europe (CEE) increased by 285% last year.

The airline contributed to a 34% year-on-year increase in passenger traffic from the CIS and Russia to Dubai International airport in the third quarter of 2012.

"More than 40% of Flydubai's route development in 2012 concentrated on CEE and CIS, cementing the airline's commitment to expansion and connectivity," Flydubai says in a statement.

The low-cost carrier's passenger numbers from markets in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) also rose by 65% in 2012.
