Fokker Aircraft Services has expanded its interior maintenance capabilities to include re-skinning of cabin components.
The MRO provider reveals that it installed a vacuum applicator at its facility in Woensdrecht last year, which allows it to apply surface foils to equipment such as stowage bins and side panels.
The advantage of re-skinning is that the original surface material can be replaced with an equivalent product. An alternative is to paint over the existing surface, but the additional paint layer could change the flammability characteristics of the equipment, it says.
Fokker also claims that painted surfaces are less durable than those coated with foils.
