India's Jet Airways has named former Air New Zealand chief Gary Toomey to head the airline following the sudden departure of Nikos Kardassis.
Jet states that the appointment is still subject to government approval and security clearance.
Toomey had been Australian carrier Qantas Airways' chief financial officer before taking over at the helm of Air New Zealand, but he left the carrier in 2001 after less than a year.
He subsequently emerged as the chief of Papua New Guinea's local carrier Airlines PNG in 2009.
Jet Airways is undergoing an ownership change following the decision by Middle Eastern operator Etihad Airways to take a 24% shareholding in the Mumbai-based airline.
