Frankfurt airport traffic down 4.9% in January

Frankfurt airport has reported a 4.9% year-on-year decrease in passenger numbers to 3.9 million in January.

Passenger volumes were affected by severe winter conditions such as weather-related flight cancellations, freezing rain and sleet in mid-January, Fraport says.

Freight tonnage grew 1.3% to 150,000t for the reporting month, while aircraft movements fell by 6.8% to 35,100.

Airport owner Fraport's five majority-owned bases handled a total of 5.7 million passengers in January, down 1.5% year-on-year.

Peru's Lima airport recorded almost 1.2 million passengers in the month, while over half a million passengers used Antalya airport.

The Bulgarian gateways of Burgas and Varna airports collectively handled about 28,500 passengers in the accounting month.
