Low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines has applied again to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for authority to operate between St. Louis, Missouri, and Huatulco, Mexico.

Frontier was granted the authority to operate on the route in February, but says that because of "delays beyond its control", it has not started scheduled service. Instead, it has been operating charter flights on the route.

Frontier now plans to begin scheduled service on or about 1 February 2013, it says in its filing with the DOT and is now requesting the DOT to reactivate its exemption authority.

No airline operates non-stop between St. Louis and Huatulco, schedules in Innovata show.
