United-Continental Holdings, parent company of United Airlines and Continental Airlines, has announced that furloughed United pilots will be offered the opportunity to fly for Continental to help "meet the needs currently anticipated for the combined company's operation in 2012".

The company has estimated that between 100 and 200 positions will be offered to United pilots.

Pilots at both carriers are represented by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), but still have yet to integrate into one group.

"We are pleased that through cooperation with the Air Line Pilots Association, we are able to offer the opportunity for these United pilots to come back to work", said United-Continental SVP of Flight Operations Fred Abbott.
