Garuda Indonesia and Etihad Airways plan to sign a codeshare agreement on 18 October.
Indonesia's flag carrier confirms that the ceremony will take place in Abu Dhabi, but declines to provide further details about what the agreement would cover.
Etihad has a daily Abu Dhabi-Jakarta service, while Garuda does not fly to Abu Dhabi. A comprehensive agreement with Etihad will give Indonesia's flag carrier access to the Gulf carrier's European, Middle East and African network.
Garuda has a four times weekly Airbus A330-200 service to Dubai that goes on to Amsterdam. Switching that stop to Abu Dhabi will allow Garuda to reduce costs by transferring its passengers on to Etihad's aircraft.
