Garuda Indonesia passenger traffic up 11% in January

Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia's total passenger traffic, as measured in RPKs, rose by 11% in January, compared with the same month last year.

The airline's capacity for the month, as measured in ASKs, increased by 19%, while passenger numbers grew by 10% to 1.7 million.

Load factor during the period decreased by 4.9 percentage points to 67.1%.

The carrier's domestic traffic fell by 7.1% year on year against capacity growth of 13%, while its load factor declined by 14 percentage points to 63.7%.

Its international RPKs climbed by 16%, compared with the same month last year. Capacity rose by 14%, while load factor increased by 1.4 percentage points to 68.7%.

The airline carried 26,900t of cargo in January, a year-on-year increase of 30%. Cargo load factor fell by 0.9 percentage points to 42.6%, Garuda says.

Garuda Indonesia's low-cost carrier Citilink reported 91% year-on-year growth in January passenger traffic against a capacity increase of 87%. Passenger numbers rose by 94% to 382,000, while the load factor grew by 1.4 percentage points to 72.4%, the airline adds.
